The online landscape is ever-changing. New devices, platforms and features are introduced on what feels like a daily basis. We’ve put together a roundup of this week’s biggest stories to help you stay ahead of the curve!
Snapchat releases their new Spectacles V2 to market this week, with reviews already predicting these to be the only camera glasses you’ll be interested in this year. Improvements on V1 include smaller packaging, a more conveniently placed charge port and a sleeker, more mature design.
With a goal to allow users to play its augmented reality Lenses, Snapchat have released Snappables – AR games that use your touch, motion and facial expressions to compete for high scores. This is the first time that we see Snapchat allow users to collaborate with other users in this way, and opens the door for many more opportunities.
Motivated by improving productivity, Google’s latest app offers a dedicated place to create, view and edit your task lists – whilst pulling content from Gmail and Google Calendar. Google Tasks can be popped up in Gmail’s taskbar for ease of use, and while we’re on the topic of ease of use, the formatting and capabilities of the app are not ground breaking. The app is stripped back to the basics, allowing users to simply create and modify lists – no thrills attached.
We touched upon this last week and Instagram has delivered, allowing all web users to download their data from the site. Access through mobile apps is still a work in progress, with the changes predominantly driven by the EU GDPR regulations regarding data portability. We’ve heard that Whatsapp will follow in it’s heels, and many more brands as the GDPR deadlines comes into play on 25th May 2018.
