Whilst Snapchat introduced video chat 2 years ago, the latest update introduces video calls for up to 16 people – and if you’d like to add more to the chat, they’ve also introduced group voice calls for up to 32 participants.
Users will be able simply flip between the two functions, and of course, filters will also be available.
‘Timestamps’ is a great new feature for those that like to share video content and interact with live video on Twitter. Users will be able to navigate to a specific time in a video and share from this point for other users to see. Traditionally when sharing live video, users would need to reference the time they’re talking about, and then have to scroll through to find it.
This is a huge step for Twitter and the use of video, as we can predict the number of viewers per video to increase – along with brand interest in advertising.
Facebook is giving its Stories an extra push, with a goal to increase the use of them on a daily basis and make them a much more central part of the app’s experience.
This is in response to a consumer shift more than anything, as visual communication becomes a priority for social media users.
First tests will roll out for iOS users in Canada and Sweden, to see how users respond to Loops – a video clip feature potentially inspired by the likes of Twitter’s Vines. The videos will only be two seconds long and will be added to user’s profiles alongside their photos, in an effort to illustrate much more personality and increase interaction.
