It’s been a big month for Facebook. The social network now has over 2 billion monthly active users around the world, and the push towards a video-dominated future continues with a number of new video-related features.
A new stand-alone video app has been announced by the social giant which is said to include a host of new tools to help creators enhance their videos and live broadcasts, along with additional video analytics. Facebook Live is continuing to develop with the addition of features including live video recommendations, closed captions and new notification options. The ability to add videos as cover images on Pages has also been made available to more users.
Facebook wasn’t the only social network to hit a major milestone this month. Instagram announced that it has now reached 250 million daily active users. The app also introduced a new feature that allows users to share their live videos to Instagram Stories for 24 hours after the broadcast.
YouTube announced some impressive stats at this year’s VidCon. The video platform now boasts 1.5 billion logged-in monthly viewers and reports that its viewers spend over an hour a day on average watching YouTube on mobile devices.
The platform also unveiled a number of features including a brand new 180° VR format and cameras that promise to make “VR more accessible and more affordable for viewers and creators.” The YouTube mobile app will be updated with a new responsive design that will allow users to watch videos in various different sizes and YouTube TV will be expanding to more markets.
Snapchat’s self-serve Ad Manager is now officially available, making it simpler for marketers to purchase video ads. On-demand geofilters can also be created and purchased using a new easy-to-use web tool.
The platform is also continuing to build out its location and search capabilities with the launch of Snap Map, a new product that allows users to share their current location and location-based content.
Vimeo has released three new video interaction features for their paying users. Updated end screens are now available to their Plus, PRO and Business members, and mobile-friendly cards and email capture forms are now included in the Business package.
